How to choose your trip to Zambia?
Zambia lends itself to trips built around three key destinations: Victoria Falls in Livingstone, South Luangwa National Park in the east, and Lower Zambezi in the south. Allow 10 days to combine Livingstone and a single park, and plan for more time if you wish to add Kafue or Lower Zambezi. Our itineraries of 8 to 12 days cover the classic formula of falls plus a safari, and also allow you to combine South Luangwa with an extension to Lake Kariba without time pressure.
Different types of trips
Our journeys focus primarily on wildlife and safari, with the Zambian specialty of the walking safari invented by Norman Carr at South Luangwa. Those interested in rivers and navigation canoe down the Zambezi between Chirundu and Mana Pools, amid hippos. For a more contemplative stay, our nature and landscape trips feature Kalambo Falls, the Busanga plains, and the quieter shores of Lake Tanganyika.
What is the best season?
The dry season runs from May to October and encompasses most safari activity. From June to August, nights drop to 8 or 10 degrees in the Luangwa Valley, days remain around 25 degrees, and sparse vegetation makes wildlife spotting easier. September and October are the hottest months, reaching up to 40 degrees, but also the richest in wildlife concentration around water sources. Victoria Falls display their strongest flow between March and May, after the rainy season.
